Dear Cris
I feel it is my duty and obligation to report to you on my hardest assignment thus far in my fire service endeavors. This assignment took place yesterday when we laid you to rest. I want to report to you that your final goodbye was enormous and impressive; although I can’t say that it went off without a hitch(s), the professionalism, resolve, and commitment to duty you have instilled in us from the Swarthmore Fire and Protective Association- Company 14 over the years came shinning through these last enduring couple of days. Every challenge that was thrown at us to prevent us from giving you your proper burial was kicked in the ass and put down.
Everybody from the Fire Company, surrounding companies, family, and friends pulled together in such fashion to ensure your final goodbye was of the highest of honors. I’m glad to report to you that’s exactly what happened; and this final assignment carried out for you was tip-top, 100% a success; you would have been proud of all of us. This directly reflects upon you of how much of a great leader, friend, firefighter, paramedic, and Chief you have been to us over these many wonderful years. I know you have made me a better person for knowing you. Everything I have learned from you over the years about being a good, dedicated person along with; how to be the best firefighter / EMT and leader I can be will never be forgotten; it will be carried on with me the rest of my life.
I’m happy I had the chance to say what I had to say to you before you left us. I want you to know that every time I had to work under your command I gave 100%. This wasn’t always easy because of such the OUTSTANDING person you were. My 100% effort if I’m lucky correlates into about 1% of the dedication you have given to the Fire Company, Fire and EMS services, and community over the years. I want you to know anytime you gave me an order I would carry it out to the best of my ability, with no hesitation or fear. I would ha...

To the members of the Swarthmore F.C. My condolences go out to the membership of the fire Dept. You have lost a great Chief and Mentor, and even though it will be hard, you will be there to answer the call. Kelsey, Kristen ,Dawn, and the rest of the Hansen family, my thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. Cris, was a good friend and mentor to me. I will miss him, but will remember the things he taught me as a friend, and as one of the Medics who helped to shape my career.
Rest in peace, brother

Chris was gifted with many talents & shared much with the others in his life. It was a pleasure to serve with him back in the 70's. He & his family are in our prayers. Chris, may you rest in peace with our Great God.

I had the honor to met Cris seventeen years ago and he immediately made a strong impression on myself and the other "probies" of that year. For us, he will always be "The Chief" - he was both rigid and kind and taught us a lot about being responsible citizens of the community. I have thought back to his example of leadership many times since. My condolences to his family and friends.

Cris was a chief wherever he was and worked. Most of all he will be remembered for compassion and cool disposition in times of crisis. I worked with Cris and his entire Taylor Hospital family and many of the EMT's and Paramedics. Cris is still serving others, I'm sure. To Dawn for her care and kindness to Cris to the very end, his daugthers, who had a great role model, father, and friend and the entire Hansen family may you all be able to find comfort in the fact that he was truly loved and will be missed. Remember his laugh and all the times we shared with Cris.

Cris was one of the few people that helped me through the beginning stages of being an EMT and helped me through writing my first chart. I'll always remember his guidance and kindness when I was nervous about being an EMT.
Cris and the Hansen family and Dawn ... you are in my prayers and thoughts everyday ...
Rest in peace Chief ...

I only spent four years with the SFPA, serving under Chris, but those years will be a part of me forever. I remember going one-on-one against The Chief in a football game one Fourth of July celebration. He put me on my back, but I felt like a man that day. That's what I remember: a leader always, regardless of what hat he was wearing. My thoughts and prayers go out to the whole SFPA community, and especially to the Hansen family.

It has been a long time since I have been back in town, but I think often and fondly of my years in Swarthmore. In the heart of those fond memories are my friends and loved ones from the fire department. I am so sorry we have lost one. Much love to Cris's family and the many friends who are feeling this loss.

As I am sure it is with many of you, I can't get Cris out of my mind.... I keep going over the past 25+ years that I was blessed to know him. Times when we differed as well as all of the times that we shared the same ideas and feelings. As we've been praying for Cris, Dawn, the girls, and the families, we've also being praying for all of you as well as for myself. Through all of the loved ones, friends, co-workers and others that I've known that have preceded us, it's been a while since one has hit me this hard. My comfort comes from knowing that the Lord has Cris with Him... What more can we ask, or wish for Cris? Draw strength and comfort from picturing Cris where he is now, and that through the grace of God we will see him again..... Praise be to God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. 2Cor 1:3 to 1:5 (NIV) This comfort we share with you...
